Meet our Hosts | Carla and family: a genuine and warm family experience in the Algarve

Carla is absolutely passionate about meeting new people, from different cultures and nationalities, and although she feels Portuguese, she is a true world citizen.

Born in the city of Beira, Mozambique, Carla moved to Portugal at the age of 16 to pursue her studies. After the end of her college education in Geology, in the island of Madeira, she moved to Lisbon where she lived for 10 years and where she met Pedro with whom she would eventually get married to.

One day, Pedro’s job forces them to relocate to England where they lived for 2 years before moving once more, this time to the United States. And it was here, in the United States, that they settled for 17 years. Four years ago they made the decision to come back to Portugal. Their feeling of isolation in the US, their desire to offer a different life experience to their children, and the specific condition of their eldest son, Miguel, 20 years old, autistic, were the big motivational factors that led them to return to their origins.

Cara Albufeira - Eat at a Local's

When she saw the information on social media about Eat at a Local’s, Carla knew immediately that she had to be part of this community of Local Hosts. Her open mind and desire to make new friends and increase the family’s social circle were the key elements for this decision. And there’s no doubt that her profile fits in perfectly in this role of Host.

The  Eat at a Local’s team couldn’t have been welcomed any better at their lovely home in Albufeira. You can feel the hospitality, the warmth and the desire to welcome guests, from all the members of this incredible family. The meal was  the perfect complement to an extremely enjoyable experience, filled with interesting and flowing conversation and a very tranquil atmosphere. The starters, accompanied by a light appetizer, the main dish – a delicious typical duck rice cooked perfectly by Pedro and the incredible dessert called “ovos queimados” (burnt eggs), inspired by the traditional Portuguese Conventual Sweets, were the stars of this extremely pleasant evening.

Carla and her family are certified and recommended Hosts by the Eat at a Local’s team.To their future guests we guarantee an incredible experience with the best typical Portuguese flavours and hospitality.

Keep an eye out for their next Experiences!
